Hiking on Eagle

On Saturday, September 26, six members (3 leaders and 3 boys) of Battalion 3273 and one guest went exploring on Eagle.

The first picture is of us at the start (Lt. Garth is taking the picture that's why he's not in it).

The first cabin we encountered. Lt. Clarence moving in? Who knows.

Lt. Jim holds our adventurous guest by the ankles as he looks for any more tarps we may have stored in this stump.

Here's the boys and Lt. Jim at the lower falls.

Here's the second cabin we found. This one was complete with arched entry to the 'yard' and cement chinking between the logs.

Getting some dead wood for the fire.

The fire near the start. We had some really good coals for cooking over.

After lunch we went further upstream and checked out the height of the upper falls by throwing some rocks over.

Here's a shot of the topmost part of the upper falls.

A good time was had by all. We left the church parking lot about 9:00 am and returned just before 3:00 pm. Thanks to everyone who showed up. For those you didn't you missed a good time. The weather was ideal for hiking.

Please note that this is the area where we are planning to do some camping in October.

Upcoming events for September to November 2009

Hi Guys,

Captain Howard and the Lieutenants had a meeting to discuss what we could do this year in Battalion. We did come up with some ideas and some of them are listed below. However we would like to know what you as guys would like to do in Battalion. Please leave us your comments or talk to us on Thursdays during regular meetings. This is YOUR Battalion. Captain Howard and the Lieutenants are here to help you get the most from Battalion.

Activities planned so far:

Thursday, September 24 - Bar-B-Q happening. Captain has bought the meat and is ready to go. We meet at the church at 6:45 p.m. and then go to Blue Mountain Park, play games and eat. We're usually done in the park by about 8:45-9:00 p.m. because it gets dark and then we come back to the church.

Saturday, September 26 - Hike up Eagle Mountain. Eagle Mountain is a great place to explore. We've often camped up there and part of this trip will be to locate former camping sites and check out the waterfalls. Meet at the church at 8:00 a.m. We will be gone by 8:15 a.m. so if you arrive after that we'll be on our way up the mountain. We should be back at the church by about 5:00 p.m. Bring your own lunch. Bring water to drink while hiking as it is thirsty work. The theme of the hike is "Creating Fire". Guess what that involves.

Thursday, October 1 - Our first regular meeting. Lots of great fun stuff planned but you'll have to come to find out what. We're not going to spoil the surprise(s) here. 6:45 - 9:00 p.m. at the church.

Thursday, October 8 - Regular meeting. 6:45 - 9:00 p.m. at the church

Thursday, October 15 - Regular meeting. 6:45 - 9:00 p.m. at the church

Thursday, October 22 - Regular meeting. 6:45 - 9:00 p.m. at the church

Saturday, October 24 to Sunday, October 25 - Camping trip up Eagle Mountain. More details to come.

Thursday, October 29 - Regular meeting. 6:45 - 9:00 p.m. at the church

Thursday, November 5 - Regular meeting. 6:45 - 9:00 p.m. at the church

Friday, November 6 - Possible football game. BC Lions are hosting the Edmonton Eskimos for B.C.'s last game of the regular season. If you're interested in going please let us know 'cause group tickets are cheaper than regular tickets.

Thursdays - Regular meeting

Sunday, November 29 - Grey Cup Sunday. Battalion Grey Cup Party. Usually happens at Lt. Rodger's place. Watch for Lt. Garth's poster with the details.

Christmas Sleepover!!! - Stay tuned.

So guys these are some of the events coming up. Please let us know any thoughts or questions. We really do want to know what you think.

Stay Bright and Keen for Christ.

Lt. Garth

CSB Kickoff Wrap-up

Hi Guys,

The annual CSB Kick-off with the BC Lions at BC Place is now done.

The Lions won, which is always nice, but of more pressing note Grand Forks Battalion won the Director's Cup AGAIN!!!!! Come on guys from southwestern British Columbia. Battalion 3273 had two boys there at the kick-off. While Langley and Surrey both had boys there the southwestern BC Battalions are letting the interior walk away with it four years in a row. This is not good guys. But congratulations to Captain Lance and his guys from Grand Forks.

Well, the hotdogs and pop were good. The new location in Science World's north parking lot seemed to work well. Big thanks to our Regional Director for organizing it all. Hopefully next year we have more people and southwestern BC Battalions take the cup from the interior.

CSB kickoff

Hi Guys,

Just a reminder that Saturday September 19 is the Kick-off for Brigade in BC at the BC Lions game at BC Place. (That's a lot of time to use the initials 'BC'. Guess which province we're in.)
Please contact Captain Howard if you have questions.

Garth
