Eagle Mountain Camp July 22 - 25!!!

Battalion Summer Camp
Friday to Monday
July 22 to 25, 2011

Eagle Mountain, Coquitlam

Battalion is going camping in the local hills to accomplish two goals: to test our Air-Soft skills and to build a Chapel. We've been camping on Eagle Mountain for years. We have several campsites along Noons Creek and will be staying at our Upper Falls Camp. The area is very interesting: it's within an easy walk of a logging camp that has long since been lost to the forest; there are numerous moss-covered corduroy-roads; and logging equipment that turns up in surprising places. The Port Moody Museum has asked us to look for evidence of the logging railroad that used to chug up the mountain. There's a swimming hole in the creek, and lots of firewood to keep us busy.

We leave from the church on Friday afternoon (2:00pm sharp) and return on Monday just after lunch to the church.

We will have FRS Walkie-Talkies and cell phones for emergency purposes. We'll take all our food up with us. We will be sleeping in a large lean-to. And, we have to carry all our gear, including the Air-Soft equipment. We've got to brig down a widow-maker and then rebuild the lean-to. We'll be building benches and tables at the camp and then erecting a cross and some benches at the Chapel. This is our big project - an area set apart for the Lord and for our own needs to be close to Him. There will be lots to keep us busy. This is going to be an excellent camp.

The cost is $30 for 4 days, 3 nights, 8 meals, snacks, and Air-Soft supplies.

Contact Capt. Howard by email or phone if you're going.

Here's a checklist for gear: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B4W0q5f9r9JXY2E5MzBiMGUtODM1Mi00ZTM5LTk1YmItZGZmMGMyMmNiMzVl&hl=en_US

Thursday June 16

Hi Guys,

What's happening on Thursday this week? Well, it depends on the weather.

If we've got good weather the plan is to go canoeing on Como Lake. Be at the church about 6:45pm and we'll head for the lake right at 7:00. If you get to the church and we're not there and it is after 7pm then we'll meet up with you at Como Lake. Don't worry about missing us at the lake as it isn't that big of a lake.

If the weather is not so good (i.e. raining) then the plan is to do some board type games with snacks in the basement.

See you then,

Lt. Garth

Hi guys,

This Thursday the plan is to do some AirSoft. If you have AirSoft gear please bring it if you can. We will have some gear that Battalion has but it is good if you can bring your own if possible.

See you on Thursday 7pm at the church.

Year End BBQ - Captain's email

Guys,

Battalion's year end BBQ is set for this Thursday, June 2, 2011.

Rain or shine.

We'll meet at the church at 6pm, and leave about five minutes later... 6:05pm, so that we can arrive at Belcarra Park around 6:30pm. We can provide rides for all the guys who are at the church in time, but if you're going to be late, you can be dropped off at the park and we can give you a drive back to the church around 9:00pm. If the weather is good, we can be as late as 9:20, even 9:30pm.

It's the usual menu - burgers, dogs, pop and ice cream. And, it's no-charge. If the weather is good, we'll have the canoes and we'll putter around the inlet. If you've got your Federal Waters Fishing Licence (it's free, if you've under 16, but you still have to have it), and you bring your crabbing gear, you can go crabbing.

We look forward to seeing all our Thursday and Friday night guys there. We're going to have a great time.

God bless.
- Captain

Summer Time coming

Hi Guys,

Just a reminder that summer time is basically here. That means we're having a much more relaxed (if that's possible) time with Battalion. This is a great time to invite friends out for when we're playing football, disc golf, or whatever (depending on weather of course).

Tough Guys was a lot of fun even with the rain.

See you Thursday,
Lt. Garth

Tough Guys is coming!

Hi Guys,

The 2011 Tough Guys weekend is coming soon. May 13-15. This is our annual Father/Son weekend which means that if you are a son or a father you qualify to come. You don't actually need to bring your father/son along to come but it would be great if you do. Uncles and nephews are eligible to be brought.

Below are links to a printable version of the poster and the registration form brochure. Fill out the registration form and hand it in at church on Sundays or Battalion on Thursdays.

Lt. Jim will be needing help with the obstacle course this year so please let him know if you're able to help.

Thursday was Bed Of Nails!

Yes, on Thursday March 31, 2011 we brought out Battalion 3273's very own Bed Of Nails and took turns enjoying the Points-a-pedic mattress. Here are some pics. (Attention Moms - the Laws of Physics make this safe.)

It was great fun. See you next Thursday.
Just a reminder about the hike up Eagle Mountain on Saturday April 16.

JR LaRose event summary

Last night's event with BC Lion JR LaRose was fantastic.

Those of us who were able to go met at the church and left at 6:20pm. We drove to New Life Baptist Church in Vancouver and got there about 10 mins before the event started. There were about 60-70 people there. We sang some songs and then the pastor at New Life invited JR to come and speak. He talked about growing up in a very poor part of town with no positive outlook on life. How his family was split up his whole life. His father was from Nigeria and his mother is aboriginal. He talked about struggling through life and meeting Jesus. He also talked about struggling in life when you try to live both as a christian and as a non-believer and how that doesn't work. At the end there was an invitation for those who wanted to know Jesus to meet Him.

For those of you who weren't able to make you missed out on a great event. And the pizza afterwards wasn't bad either.

Winter Camp is Coming

Hi Guys,

The 'We're Crazy But We Don't Care Winter Camp' is happening Friday March 18 to Sunday March 20 at Manning Park's Lone Duck Campground. Captain Howard will be sending out the equipment list very soon. As soon as he sends it out it will be posted on the blog. A big thing to remember is that this is a vehicle based camp so you won't be as restricted in what you can bring compared to a hiking camp.

Just a reminder that we have a hike coming up in April and that the 'Tough Guys Father Son Camp' is happening in May. See the previous post for the dates.

Special Event on February 3!!!

Hi Guys,

Just a note about a special event happening on Thursday, February 3, 2011.

Russell Stendal is coming to Calvary Baptist! Who is Russell Stendal?
We looked at his life (so far) at our Battalion Noncom Conference last February. Here'swhat we learned:
RussellStendal grew up as a missionary kid in Columbia amongst the Kogi Indians. On August 14th 1983 he was taken hostage by a band of FARC rebels in the town of Canyo Jabon. He was held for 142 days and released only after his brother paid a $55,000 ransom. This incredible story is in his book Rescue the Captors. During the ordeal he learned that his captors where actually in greater bondage than he was. They were forced to stay with the rebel groups on fear of death or the death of their family, but more than that, they were subject to the guilt and fear caused by their sin. After his release Russell dedicated his life to reaching the men and women on all sides of the conflict with the only message of hope that could free them; the message of forgiveness and peace that comes from accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
Today, Russ is reaching out to the Lost in Columbia, to the terrorists and the Army and everyone in between. He has built and staffed radio stations to spread the Gospel in two formats, easy-listening Gospel radio and Bible based learning radio. He's formed a partnership with Galcom and drops their solar powered, pre-tuned radios from his plane as he flies over remote areas which are otherwise closed to the Gospel. He's taking Bibles to places few people would dare to go. And, he loves it - he is serving God.

At 6:30 that evening Russ will be meeting with our Battalion (location TBA) for a few minutes and then at 7:00 Russ will be meeting everyone who can come for a evening of stories and ministry.

Bring your friends and parents. You don't want to miss this.
