50th Anniversary Celebration

Hi Guys,

Yes, our CSB Battalion is 50 years old. Just think we are on our third generation of boys going through a Christian Service Brigade program. Our big celebration is happening on Saturday and will feature a number of special guests. This is something to get your parent(s) and/or guardian(s) to come to. Call Captain Howard to get involved.

Special Event on February 3!!!

Hi Guys,

Just a note about a special event happening on Thursday, February 3, 2011.

Russell Stendal is coming to Calvary Baptist! Who is Russell Stendal?
We looked at his life (so far) at our Battalion Noncom Conference last February. Here'swhat we learned:
RussellStendal grew up as a missionary kid in Columbia amongst the Kogi Indians. On August 14th 1983 he was taken hostage by a band of FARC rebels in the town of Canyo Jabon. He was held for 142 days and released only after his brother paid a $55,000 ransom. This incredible story is in his book Rescue the Captors. During the ordeal he learned that his captors where actually in greater bondage than he was. They were forced to stay with the rebel groups on fear of death or the death of their family, but more than that, they were subject to the guilt and fear caused by their sin. After his release Russell dedicated his life to reaching the men and women on all sides of the conflict with the only message of hope that could free them; the message of forgiveness and peace that comes from accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
Today, Russ is reaching out to the Lost in Columbia, to the terrorists and the Army and everyone in between. He has built and staffed radio stations to spread the Gospel in two formats, easy-listening Gospel radio and Bible based learning radio. He's formed a partnership with Galcom and drops their solar powered, pre-tuned radios from his plane as he flies over remote areas which are otherwise closed to the Gospel. He's taking Bibles to places few people would dare to go. And, he loves it - he is serving God.

At 6:30 that evening Russ will be meeting with our Battalion (location TBA) for a few minutes and then at 7:00 Russ will be meeting everyone who can come for a evening of stories and ministry.

Bring your friends and parents. You don't want to miss this.

GREY CUP PARTY details!

The Battalion Grey Cup Party is taking place at "The Canoe Club" in Port Moody. It's part of Clarence C.'s Strata Complex, so it's basically across from his condo.

Here's what it looks like:

(The driving directions can be gotten from a Captain Howard or another leader.)

Details: We meet at the church (side parking lot), leaving from there at 2:15pm, or you can be dropped off at the Canoe Club at 2:30pm, or later. We expect the game to end around 6:30 to 7:00pm. Rides can be given or arranged as needed.

Each guy should bring a 2 liters beverage of their choosing, and a bag of whatever snack he wants to munch on. There will be big hotdogs there and some other good food.

Clarence suggests that we bring our ball hockey sticks and a ball or two and enjoy some half-time and post-game (perhaps) physical activity.

If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

Thanks, see you there.

Battalion 3273 is going CAMPING!

Here's the email that Captain Howard sent on October 19

Saturday, October 23th, to Sunday, October 24th, 2010.

We're going to the Squamish River Forestry Site ( 49°54'55.16"N 123°17'39.49"W), near the bridge.

Rodger and I checked it out Monday and it's better than ever - picnic tables, firepits, and two pit toilets; all quite new. Oh, and no fees.

We leave Saturday morning at 8am - arrive at the church by 7:45. Eat breakfast before you arrive.

We return to the church between 3 and 4pm Sunday afternoon, after buying lunch at the Squamish McDonald's.

Cost: $15 (includes gas) plus money for McDonald's on Saturday.

Bring the usual wet and cold camping gear - If you need the list please contact Captain Howard. Be prepared for rain and cold nights. We'll have tarps, tents and a big fire so we'll be quite comfortable.

And bring your fishing rod (and licence if you're over 15 years old).

We'll be fishing, building fires, eating, and having good fun.

If you haven't already filled out the Battalion Registration Form/Permission Form, you'll need to do this before you go.

Any questions please call Captain Howard
